Many will have heard of Daniel Dunglas Home. If not:

His levitations were investigated by such luminaries as Sir William Crookes, who was well-respected until his interests in psychic phenomena earned him censure by academic authorities.
A qualified and respected respected statistician submitted the results of a government-funded investigation into twenty years of government-funded research into "psi" phenomena (having already "proved" that "there are no such things as psychic phenomena"):

which concluded. "It is recommended that future experiments focus on understanding how this phenomenon works, and on how to make it as useful as possible. There is little benefit to continuing experiments designed to offer proof, since there is little more to be offered to anyone who does not accept the current collection of data."
Steven Greer's "Disclosure Project" has assembled so much evidence as to the reality of ETs and their perpetual presence here:
http://disclosureproject.org/
that no fair-minded person can doubt this reality.
Yet still the "debate" continues.
Is anyone else tired of going around in circles, and wanting to do something useful about our situation here?
