    From the campaign
    ............................................................................................................
    "Hi :-)
My name is Taji and I am in need of some financial help. Last August I moved out of my family's house and started my first term at the local community college. I had joined the Machining program and worked really hard to get straight A's in each of my classes.
But while on winter break between terms, I started to come to the realization that machining was not something I really wanted to make a career out of. It was not something I had much passion about, and I believe that I had chosen it because it was the easy option.
My dad was already in the program, and I figured that with his help I could navigate the unknowns of college. But my interests have always been on the topic of history and science. And my natural skills are geared towards writing and the arts.
So when I returned to school I switched my goals to getting an Associates of Arts Transfer degree, and am hoping to go to University once it is completed. The issue I am having now is that I paid for my first two terms of college through Financial Aid.
Luckily it is not much when compared to some of the numbers I have heard in the news, but for me it represents a serious problem with continuing my educational goals. I took out the original loans because that was the only way I could start my path towards getting a degree.
Now that I am on my own, I am being faced with a harsh reality I was not prepared for in regards to finances. This summer I am planning on starting online shops on websites like Etsy and Bonanza. And I plan to sell Various kinds of jewelry(mostly chainmaille).
With the money I to make from this venture, I plan on saving up enough to pay for classes in the fall. The issue I am faced with is that I am not sure I can save up enough to both pay for new classes, and the monthly student debt bill I will then have.
It was brought to my attention that many other students faced with similar problems, have brought their cases to this website. And through the incredibly generous donations from simply amazing people, have been able to keep moving forward with their goals.
I was raised to not ask other people for money. I was told that it was rude, or made me look bad. But I don't know what else to do. I really want to one day head to University and study one of the many subjects close to my heart. And from there make a positive difference in the world.
I am just not certain that I will be able to do all that if I am unable to make it off the ground due to the weight of my student loans. So I ask in complete humility, Will you help me pay off my student debt?
I will be so sincerely grateful for any amount you can send my way. Every contribution, no matter how small, will put me one step closer to my goal.

    Thank you,
    :-)

    Hi Taji,

do you get the funding even if you don't reach your goal?

that is one of the main gripes with the most popular crowdfunded site - Kickstarter.

Yes, I will get whatever people donate. The way they've set up their website, is that there aren't any time limits on a campaign. The person who created it can leave it up as long as they want. Even after they have reached their goal, on the off chance that someone will want to donate then. And the campaign creator can withdraw donations whenever they want(it doesn't affect the overall progress indicator). I didn't realize that kickstarter doesn't give the people the money donated unless they reach their goal. That's kinda horrible. :-/ that makes kickstarter a risk for smaller projects that aren't well known doesn't it?

cheers, thanks for the answers Taji!

and yeah, Kickstarter really is all about the 'big' projects these days; the ones that run into hundreds of thousands of dollars, or even approaching millions.

but it's neat that there's all these alternative crowdfunding sites. Indiegogo is one of the other main ones.
