social networking + ascension

anyone else get the feeling that Social Networking (myspace, facebook, twitter) offers an accelerated means for ascension?

my take is -

1) social networking connects individuals around the globe. hence stories and information can move around quickly, accelerating change in opinions and analysis

2) social networking increases opportunities for synchronicity: even for people not open to spiritual information, large networks offer the chance of links 'falling' into someone's lap. This may be an opportune video link, or blog entry, but info will find its owner.

3) social networking levels the human race: everyone interacts equally on such networks. They describe themselves with words and pictures, but other than that, you are just a 'face' or 'presence'. The physical and monetary aspects of real life are downplayed. We recognise the commonness in us all.

it's all about accelerated change. Some might call it the Singularity, I prefer it more as the Jumpramp into 2012.

I agree. From a programmer's point of view, a lot of what's underlying this is that data is being made more open and less tied to specific uses. I wrote an article where I saw this as a precursor for the development of a collective mind, or social memory complex, that will be more accessible to individuals. You can read it here. In the article I quoted Tim O'Reilly, who is basically considered to be one of the forefathers of the Web 2.0 movement, of which social networking is one variety of web application. He put it in interesting terms:

If an essential part of Web 2.0 is harnessing collective intelligence, turning the web into a kind of global brain, the blogosphere is the equivalent of constant mental chatter in the forebrain, the voice we hear in all of our heads. It may not reflect the deep structure of the brain, which is often unconscious, but is instead the equivalent of conscious thought. And as a reflection of conscious thought and attention, the blogosphere has begun to have a powerful effect.

The parallels for the student of the Law of One are obvious.

I've had a similar feeling about the Web generally.

I haven't done much in the Social Networking space, but it seems to me that the lack of anonymity is not necessarily a plus. It has too much tie-in to the "real world", where people get dinged from jobs because of their Facebook pages etc. Maybe I'm overplaying this issue, and I am from a generation before those who usually use those sites. But I prefer the anonymity of the old stuff, like IRC and chat boards where you can make up a name and post your thoughts, even saying things that might be somewhat verboten in the business side of life.

I've actually created an anonymous myspace page and email adress to send links to lawofone.info to people who I think might be open to it. I've wondered if this might be a little bit free-will violation, but I don't think so really. I don't see how it's any different than giving it to them myself, except by doing it anonymously there is a sense of mystery and they don't know who I am so who I am doesn't matter, which it shouldn't. It's like offering up the material without it carrying any of the baggage of how that person already knows me.
And even in my private myspace page, I've often written blogs based pretty much on the Law of One without explicitly saying, and numerous friends and family members have related to me how they felt inspired reading them. So, I think that they can definately be used to assist in raising the general consciousness.

I was present in the BBS period aswell, I even had my own "BoReD" (The idea that I was a kid at the time would be accurate) And you're right. So much is changing in the last few years because the ordinary person is looking outside the society fed frame of read this believe that and are actually getting their opinions straight from ordinary people who are close to the relevant events. Ordinary people whose voices would otherwise be completely lost.

Tools like google and wikipedia are an attack on the ivory towers of expertise. A smart guy who knows how to use the internet can discuss with experts and gain an understanding on a subject that traditionally was only available for academics.

This week I had to think about this guy I spoke to around that time I must have been 16. And he was 16.. Only he was from Singapore! He was just a huge sparkle, always making jokes and the thing that made the biggest impression on him was that the people in the west were so much smarter. We didn't have this Buddhist bigotry.. We had actual Christianity! In which according to him normal human weaknesses would vanish in the light of love.

It's a great idea... We should adopt it

You can imagine it blew my mind because the "freethinkers" here tend to think exactly the same thing but in opposite directions!

That guy taught me a great deal about the nature of "abroad" and how "strange" cultures are really just a rearrangement of basic human values and prejudices.

But according to some social scientists who follow the chaos paradigm a radical new structure which is not hierarchic but a reflection of the groups core interests, small groups working together from all over the world solving small problems and even big ones will be the new model. And we're already seeing this. In big companies like google, but also on a smaller scale. A guy from Holland went to Africa on holiday. He met a guy who had a hard time providing for his family which happened to live right next to the most beautiful beach ever. So the tourist gave him a photo camera. And told him that he would give one euro for every photo with specific names and greetings on them that he would provide via e-mail. So now this guy and his family have no more money problems they just have a daily chore of writing messages in the sand and making pictures of them and sending them through the internet to him which he then sells to people who want to surprise others with unique messages like that.
