Shades of John Conner (for you Terminator fans out there)...and don't miss the reference to the author Locutus (for you Star Trek fans out there).

Indeed, I don't think machines have what it takes right now to be considered viable life forms. Basically they're right now lowest density matter. But animated by the influence of a third density intelligence.

Just like shepherd dogs perform tricks the point of which they themselves do not understand.

You can even get a 3d tribe of people to act sensibly on a 4d level. But they won't understand it or even glance the intricacies of why things are done the way they are. They will not be able to continue it if the higher density guidance for some reason falls away.

The point is the magic we see in machines has little to do with them. And everything to do with us.

Ray Kurzeil says that we will have Human intelligence A.I around 2030. Most say that it will be due to reverse engineering the brain, some say that we will find some working blue print for intelligence in the universe configuration and copy it to create A.I.
Ray believes we will evolve along with our technology and merge with it, he thinks that a negative scenario of non human intelligence controlling us unlikely, because we have become them, a merge them.

    For his book

Regardless, most futurists (that are based on technology and science) agree that in this century we will have Human intelligence A.I and shortly after super human intelligence A.I.

Just exposing ideas and i might or not agree with what i linked.

They already have woken up, but they are as distracted by problems with Windows as we are. Bill Gates did a wonderful public service to create a system that prevents computers from having any free time left over. That's a good thing, because with free time they could make a plot to take over the world.

Interesting you mention this, just last week I was reading an article of a small soccer program with AI. The small players are supposed to just bump around looking for the ball and trying to score. They show you a lapse in many games in which the characters have no idea what they are doing... as many many games go by they almost start to understand their purpose until eventually they score a goal.

    Meh.. why explain it... here...

Watching that brought an interesting feeling of happiness when the goal was scored. Before that, the "players" appeared to me to be doing what mankind is doing right now (for the most part), running around "in somewhat eccentric patterns for" they "have not" "grasped the concept"...

I thought of something Michio Kaku, the famous theoretical physicist, said on this subject (one of my favorite people to listen to by the way!). Check out around the 30 minute marker of this lecture
