1. Grains (whole or refined breads, pastas)
2. Starches
3. Fruits/refined sugars (w/the exception of small amounts of berries)
4. Soy (used to make a lot of imitation foods like burgers)
5. Vegetable oils (**cough cough ** vegan Smart Balance butter)
5. High carb vegetables
If you're a vegan, I'd recommend cutting out all of the above ASAP. Oh wait.....you can't because that's all you eat! Looks like we have a little problem then.
I realize most vegans don't eat refined sugars/grains but eat whole grains and starchy vegetables just to meet their daily caloric needs. Maybe 1500-2000 calories is average with all of us. I personally don't count calories anymore.
My question to vegans is...why in the world would you eat something that would spike blood sugar, and therefore insulin, such as grains and starches and actually consider it healthy? High insulin is the number one cause of our chronic illnesses. Sure, if you're young and insulin sensitive, then you can get away with it for a bit. You can literally eats tons of sugar/fat laden junk food and not gain weight even if you don't exercise. But the party will come to end eventually. My sister is learning this. Her butt is like twice the size of mine and my brother-in law has the standard American "beer gut". But they were all lean and trim when they were young up to their 30s. I guess their body has had enough.
I think we can all agree that soda, cookies, table sugar, white bread would need to go out the door. That's just common sense. But it gets into murky waters when I tell them to stay away from ALL grains/starches/soy/vegetable oils and to be very liberal with fruits. A lot of vegans are also low fat/high carb too.
And I say all this while drinking a Diet Pepsi
hahaha. I'm just messing w/you vegans. It's fun! Seriously the Diet Pepsi is just as bad as regular soda. It won't raise blood sugar, but it will probably raise insulin and do all kinds of liver damage since the body doesn't know how to process artificial sweeteners. I drink wayyyy too much Diet soda.
