Illustrations - Rake - 01-05-2014

Having just been given my notice from my part time job I guess now is as good a time as any to promote my illustrations on here. I love drawing and the more people I can get to see my work will hopefully increase the probability of people buying prints and paying for an illustration or two.

I don't know what half the people do on here job wise but any advice is welcome. Here's my facebook page and tumblr check out my doodles and i hope you like them Smile

How exciting! Looking back I feel quite liberated about 'losing' my job. I realize now that I never want to work, just for the money, ever again. Haven't worked a day in 8 months, moved to a place I actually couldn't afford but I really needed a place for myself so I guess the universe supported that idea Wink. Just go with your intuition, You are amazingly talented and I bet there are many writers who would love for you to illustrate their books. Or perhaps you could offer your drawings to (online) magazines? Ask a tattoo artist if you can spend some time with them while they're at work, so you'll have an idea of what it truly entails? Or if you feel too uncomfortable about tattooing perhaps you could design pieces for their clients. Have fun Smile

Thanks for your kind words. I think I'v been a bit slack in my self promotion in terms of contacting magazines. I have three images I'm currently waiting to be published on a website online that I'm fairly happy with and I guess im waiting for them to be published so I can send them out to magazines and such.

It's interesting you moved out after losing your job I spent all of yesterday looking at places! I'll take that as a little sign that everything will sort itself out. Smile

Do you feel comfortable about sharing your work? Am asking because I always feel that any artistic expression is quite a vulnerable (and beautiful) way of 'putting yourself out there'. As it is always open to personal interpretation. When people began to ask me if they could see my work it was as if they were asking me to take off my clothes so they could judge. That's not how I experience it these days but I always wonder how others go about it, so to speak.

I've spent a lot of time worrying about financial recourses these past months because every attempt at 'material security' failed. By the time I was completely broke my mom heard she had finally (after many years of prosecution) won her lawsuit, so she gifted me enough money to support me until the end of next month. It's not a way of living I'd recommend but it seems to work for me.

I hope your work will be published!

I'm comfortable with people seeing my work just not great at putting it out there. I think it's that I want to be able to draw for a living but I guess I need to start living and just draw and see what comes of it.

Have you made a DeviantArt account? Its a great way to sell prints and show off your work and gain access to a wide field of artists and art enthusiasts.

I have this perception that deviant art is out dated for some reason. Perhaps it is because I first came across it 10ish years ago?. Do people still use it regularly?

RE: Illustrations - Unbound - 01-09-2014

As far as I know it is as bustling as ever aha I think most artists just use it as a portfolio and convenient way to do prints, but there seem to be just as many people on there as ever. Most likely because there hasn't been another site that has overridden it.
