"If I didn't have a microwave I'd starve" - Marc - 06-17-2013 So I was rummaging about Facebook and saw a friend with his status being "If I didn't have a microwave, I would starve" and it completely set an alarm off in my head about how reliant our western culture is on the microwave. I've always had an eerie feeling about it and would only use it when absolutely nessesary, but I think I may try to cut all cords from it now (pardon the electrical pun). Doing a quick google gave me this Quote:In short, microwaves distort the molecular structure of the foods. They destroy much of the nutrients and cause many other problems with the immune system over a period of time. If you love your family read this and take the extra couple of minutes to heat the food up the right way.The underlying issue is the high-paced environment that we put ourself in, that forces us to not take time to properly prepare food, or we work in a place that only has a microwave to prepare food with. This brings to mind the Slow (food) Movement Quote:The only thing for certain is that everything changes. The rate of change increases. If you want to hang on you better speed up. That is the message of today. It could however be useful to remind everyone that our basic needs never change. The need to be seen and appreciated! It is the need to belong. The need for nearness and care, and for a little love! This is given only through slowness in human relations. In order to master changes, we have to recover slowness, reflection and togetherness. There we will find real renewal.Taking time to prepare a good meal from scratch is very therapeutic for me. I slow down and spend time in meditation while cooking/'preparing' (for my lots of raw food culinary embarkments). I'm gonna start using my oven to reheat food, try to not rely on the microwave at work by eating foods that don't need to be hot and try other methods of heating also, how would you go about implementing a more natural food (re)preparation in your lifestyles? RE: "If I didn't have a microwave I'd starve" - Jade - 06-17-2013 Quote:This microwave radiation interacts with the molecules in food. All wave energy changes polarity from positive to negative with each cycle of the wave. In microwaves, these polarity changes happen millions of times every second. Thank you for the post, Marc. I didn't know the science about it, but after hearing what was posed a rumor that plants given microwaved water die, and also reading a channeling where the entity talked about "reversing the polarity" (which never sounds good!) I'd recently stopped using it based on guided intuition. I like to err on the side of caution myself. Plus, when we're lazily using the microwave, how often really do we use microwave safe dishes? I know most take-out I get comes in very flimsy plastic or styrofoam containers, which just don't hold up in the microwave. I've been on a chemical detox kick lately though, I recently switched to using baking soda and vinegar for basically everything. Cheers and good health to all! RE: "If I didn't have a microwave I'd starve" - GentleReckoning - 06-17-2013 I avoid microwaving 'healthy' food. If it's food that doesn't have alot of nutrition to begin with, I don't worry about it *as* much. RE: "If I didn't have a microwave I'd starve" - xise - 06-17-2013 My non-spiritual cousin tried out watering plants with microwaved water, and they slowly died. I would love to see someone try it after blessing the water. It is possible to bless your food after microwaving as a way to reorganize the liquid structure. This is actually important to do before eating in any case. RE: "If I didn't have a microwave I'd starve" - Marc - 06-18-2013 Yes, I was wondering that also. It would take a bit of intelligent energy to reconstruct it and a considerable amount of faith, but isn't that kinda missing point of putting good vibes into your food while preparing it in a pleasant fashion. RE: "If I didn't have a microwave I'd starve" - AnthroHeart - 06-18-2013 My mom ordered a new convection oven. It's supposed to cook frozen chicken in like 30 mins she says. I'm not sure if it uses microwaves, but she bought it to replace our aging microwave oven. She spent $200 on it. But if you're in a situation where it can't be helped... I microwave burgers for customers because I work at a fast food restaurant. I think that doing what Brown Eye mentioned would be a great service to those who are ordering the food. RE: "If I didn't have a microwave I'd starve" - Marc - 06-18-2013 @ Aaron: Agreed. I could do the same at my work. @Gemini wolf: That's a pretty good idea! They are much faster than regular ovens. RE: "If I didn't have a microwave I'd starve" - Jeremy - 06-18-2013 Yea it just isn't possible to now use one for me. I grill 15lbs of chicken at a time and cook a bunch of sweet potatoes also so I have to use a microwave. RE: "If I didn't have a microwave I'd starve" - Aaron - 06-18-2013 @Gemini Wolf Yeah convection ovens just rock! (06-18-2013, 02:18 PM)Jeremy Wrote: Yea it just isn't possible to now use one for me. I'm not sure on the science behind it, but it seems much safer than a microwave, and it perfectly (and evenly!) re-heats food in about 5-7 minutes. Its the same size as a microwave too. Then you could turn all your co-workers on to it. :p |
