Today's pop music - kanonathena - 12-05-2012
Most pop music today are dance music. Strong rhythm, wicked tunes, I never resonated with them, unbearable and even mindless, very entertainment oriented. However, some songs do have lyrics quite insightful and inspiring, aided with the rhythm creating a sense of power and libation. What do you guys think?

I have seen that as well. Quite an odd reflection of what the masses wish to feel, juxtaposed to the "9 to 5 grind" eh?

This is kind of a tangent but I've never really listened to lyrics, ever. If the song is slow enough and it lacks complexity, I'll hear the lyrics and actually listen to the message but for the most part, my ears hear the beats, tunes, melodies, and harmonies within the music only and my mind tunes out interpreting lyrics.
Not sure why I've always been like that but its allowed me to listen to pretty much all types of music without having to be turned off because of generic lyrics.

Same exact way for me. I almost never listen to lyrics, all I care about is the music itself. The music I listen to changes with my mood. Sometimes I love listening to piano music, and other times I love listening to my generations music.

Yea outside of music like Mumford & sons, jack Johnson, etc, all I listen to on pandora is African music, classical movie themes, and some Indian music

I am really into Trap music, Of monsters and men, house/drum and bass, Marina and the diamonds, christmas dubstep, and lots of faster moving music this month. last month i only listened to swing era music. like from the 20s,50s and 90s. and before that it was all piano/classical/modern takes on classical but heavily relying on violin and piano. right now i am listening to ke$ha's new album on spotify. not the music combinations one might expect :-P especially of monsters and men and trap music XD

Dubstep music especially I've found has many ascension themes inside of them. I think that there are some fairly awake people breaking the genres of today.
Oddly enough, heavy metal music has had some fairly blatant 'awakened' themes for a long time. I just have a hard time listening to it.

I'm so torn and confused over 'entertainment' in general. I saw this video the other day and while I can't say I totally get it, I thought the symbolism was interesting too with her meeting her 'more powerful self' and finding her way out of a labyrinth of sorts... From a 'princess of pop' to boot as well
I do think there are a mix of positive and negatives in entertainment; applying discernment is not necessarily the rule for most tho. (and i have no idea as to katy perry either
)

Doh I totally forgot about adding dubstep into my list. It's mainly my workout music as its replaced the louder, more violent metal I used to listen to but have found it to be hard on my ears ever since I made this transition which has always baffled me. I grew up on hard rock and metal but now, its so full of anger that I'm immediately put off by it now

Every generation has "thier" music....while their parents mostly hate it preferring the music of their time.
Its a continuous cycle. People change, but all the various music styles since the advent of radio are still being played somewhere.
I'm not going to make judgments on the music of today. It speaks to someone.
I don't have to listen to it though
