working with our four legged bretheren - norral - 01-19-2012

recently our kids got a little doggie given to them. a poodle mix. the doggie is very gun shy to say the least very suspicious of strangers. initially i was not happy with this but it caused me to think, so so many of our four legged brothers and sisters have been abused it is stunning really. this dog is this way because of the enviornment it grew up in. it did not grow up with love. so i am going to transmit love to this little fella and let it know it is loved unconditionally. there is so much suffering on this planet amongst humans and take and amplify that suffering x 10 and u probably get the suffering amongst our animal brothers. i also dont even like the word animal anymore it seems derogatory, they are special gifts to us and i embrace them with love. if anyone has any thoughts on something other than animals to call them i would appreciate it. i talk to dogs in my neighborhood all the time they see in me a kindred soul and they are so beautiful so friends to us humans unconditionally loving

I call them friends. Native Americans call them brothers and sisters. But there is nothing wrong with "animal" . . . only in the context of human behavior is it derogatory and ironically it's human behavior that can be despicable. The suffering of our animal friends brought on by humans is something that I find difficult to accept, while our cruelty to each other is at least (theoretically) a collective learning process we have agreed upon.

I am grateful that you chose not to participate in animal testing, and I would venture to say that entire animal kingdom is in gratitude for it. It sounds as though you did not need that catalyst anyway, as you already have compassion for our animal friends. Smile
