Here a family in suburban southern California raises everything they eat on 1/5 acre; and has food and flowers left over to sell. This is an earth-friendly lifestyle.

Yes, it's inspiring. I have about 1 1/2 acres....imagine what I could do. I already have a big garden, a blackberry patch, and 11 fruit trees, and I'm adding another large garden this year, and maybe a chicken coop. If I were further out in the country, I'd probably pen up a few hogs, or some hair sheep.
I also can cut a surprising amount of firewood off my property; could probably sustain cuts of at least a cord per year.

I'm stuck indoors mostly, in the city. Connecting with nature like that must be great.. Very meditative..

One man's labor is another man's pleasure.
There are plenty of chores that I detest, but I enjoy gardening and (especially) fruit culture. I've been raising fruit, off and on, for more than 30 years. I particularly like being able to secure a good supply of varieties that aren't available in grocery stores. The best fruits don't ship well.
I'll be planting 4 more peach trees this spring; all varieties that aren't sold in stores.
