Growing Food/Alternative Lifestyles/Money - pat19989 - 08-13-2021
Hi everyone.
I was wondering if there was an interview/writing from Jim where he talks extensively about his time living in the woods away from people. I did a couple searches around the forums but couldn't find anything.
I'd also invite anyone who is interested in alternative lifestyles, off-grid living, or farming to provide input. I was born into city-living but I'd like to start learning how to grow food. Being city-locked in an apartment, I think I may start with an herb garden on my porch.
This whole money-based society is exhausting at times and I feel that growing food/herbs is a baby step towards liberation on that front.
Advice, resources, thoughts ?

Get out of the city, move to the country. See if you can find a place that has its own water supply, that doesn't depend upon electricity.

I’ve seen pictures of your gardens in another thread. Do you live mainly off the grid? What was the transition like? And what do you do for money? Don’t mean to be nosy, feel free to ignore any and all of these questions I’m just curious what a transition would look like

I'm not off the grid, but would be if it was practical for me. Where we live, there is no possibility of getting water from a well, so all water comes from surficial water, and requires electricity to pump to homes. So our only possibility of (clean) water is the municipal supply. I recognize this as a structural vulnerability.

Hi Eddie, thank you for replying and sending me those videos. I watched the first one and am hooked.
However, I can think of about 3000 reasons to get off the grid. My real trouble is planning a way to get off the grid because I have grown up about as much on the grid as one could possibly be. As of now, I am hoping to buy a plot of land in rural Ohio or Kentucky as soon as I have the money, rent a place in the city to live while I work and build funds while learning how to homestead on my property. The rent and mortgage payments may not be realistic, however, so it may be awhile until I will be financially able to get out of the city. I do not wish to commute for an hour into the city everyday
