The White Magician - chaospanda - 11-22-2015
Ra and Q'uo talk about the White Magician - an entity that is able to produce changes in his consciousness at will.
Would those here who have embarked on this path care to share what techniques and resources have helped them in this endeavor?
I have utilized Reiki and various forms of meditation, but have not gone into more "strict" forms of magic. It seems to be difficult to find quality material.

There is really no end to the knowledge on the internet alone, but once you consciously manifest the intention of wanting to become a practictioner, the more the universe will feel inclined to make that path available to you. I've learned through my experiences that magick is not something one really "learns" but something that one experiences.

again, if you are clear on your end goals, the techniques will find their way to you.
There is much simple terminology in Ra that has to be personally unpacked for it to actually have any 'meaning'.
The 'work in consciousness' in this case is just about shifting from one vantage point to another vantage point.
This is called 'work'; but really the energy that is utilised in that process (and the resulting changes which are deemed 'work') are nothing more than a reconfiguration that happens as a result of properly configured and parsed desires. First of all the language of the mind has to be deciphered, and then the interfacing with the spirit has to be understood. Intentions are one thing; parsing them so that they can be understood by the subconscious/deeper frameworks is another thing. It's not about language or wording per-se; it's more about the concatenation of a set of serial concepts that actually translates into magical efficacy. Work/energy is a consequence of this type of interaction; it's not the be-all and end-all. For a positive lightworker, all these efforts are geared towards greater wholeness in the self, which will then naturally radiate out to others as accepting, acknowledging, and embracing who they are. Integration/integrity of the self is the real measure of progress in this case.

I'd say the archetypes offer a clearly delineated study for those who invest in them. I wouldn't call it "strict", either, because it's all very mutable.

I also use Reiki, it's a great system of 'white magic' and can be used in very complex ways, but that tends to venture outside the tradition.
The system I have the most familiarity with is the Golden Dawn and one of their rituals was used as part of the Ra contact and were mentioned by Don and commended by Ra as a path of formidable service. That ritual being the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram. However, Ra also offered a few 'rituals', such as one in which one makes clear why they are seeking Ra and the Law of One.
There are many different forms though so I might consider in terms of principle. Typically, in my opinion, 'white magic' is considered magic which is done and used in respect to free will. 'Black magic' thus is that magic which is directed towards controlling others without their free will. So, when seeking and looking through systems it can be tricky because not all sorts of magic look the same.
Most magical systems you find either seem to connect to one or multiple of a few sources. There is Kabbalah and the Tree of Life, tied to the Old and New Testaments, for example. Sufism is what I would consider 'Islamic magic'. There are mantras and yoga in the east and related to Hinduism and others.There are the Taoist masters. There are the Buddhas, although Tibetan Bon is also a very powerful system. There is druidism and witchcraft which does have a pure side which is based around working with harmony of nature. Witches are said to have been created by nature to protect against the rapid growth of civilization. There are shamans from many cultures all over the world and often associated with medicine and healing. Healing is often a focus of those who practice white magic although empowerment is also often important. There are many, many more. Egyptian influenced, Chaldean influenced, alchemy, gnosticism, there is supposedly even a white side of voodoo, all of these can in some way be related to 'white magic'.
You may find, however, that there are immediately things which you do not trust or do not resonate with and that is fine. There is debate on whether or not there is 'white magic' and 'black magic' so sometimes they end up looking like eachother so I say what is most important is to follow your heart and your own wisdom and discern every source you read. If it doesn't feel right, don't feel guilty for not feeling something is what it says it is.
Communing with those who practice is good, but also be careful of agendas or temptations. Magic brings about power and power can make one hungry for more if the correct state of mind is not achieved, in my opinion. I think this is why Ra and others of mystical practices suggest humility, compassion and an open-hearted perspective because then power will be used to positive benefit.
If you really want to do a proper study, in my opinion, you should start looking through cultures because almost every single culture has some form of 'positively charged' individual whom is an inspiration. This, however, is the most important part of magic and something against which I weigh all other teachings I encounter.

@Aion, I have been considering investigating a local Golden Dawn group so I can explore more ritual magic. I've been timid about it because I have never done anything remotely like this and am bad at small talk and such. I'm also worried they simply won't know what they are doing, etc etc
Any advice on approaching them?

The white magic Ra discusses is from the Golden Dawn system for the most part. They teach the Hermetic Qabalah as a means of initiation through the 10 sephiroth leading up to the degree of ipsissimus , although from what i have seen 7:4 Adeptus Extempus is commonly regarded as the highest grade anyone can reach in physical form, the 3 higher grades being those of the inner plane school/teachers. I have had a decent look into the Golden Dawn and the WMT, its a highly interesting area of study but i found it lacked any real sense of linage, when compared to say a path such as Buddhism or Taosim, Yoga etc. The linage seems to have been a creation of the original masonic founders and the Qabalah seems to have been arranged from the Christian Qabalah and not the Kabbalah of the traditional Jewish linages. Most of the schools and teachings of the Golden Dawn are coming from the Crowley/Regardie teachings. That being said i do think its a good system and its quite amazing to think that 3 founders could create such a modern day mystery school.

Be honest, up front and open-hearted. If they are worth their salt, imo, their response should make a perfectly clear. Maybe see if they do any public events you can attend and meet them more impersonally. If you like and know the name of the temple I could ask my GD friend if he knows about it?

The temple that I am familiar with practices/studies Lurianic/Shabbatean Qabalah primarily with the other forms of Qabalah being secondary. This is a Jewish based Qabalah, so I would suggest that it varies widely from Temple to temple what the exact focus is. This of course lends more to the idea of a lack of lineage.
Of course, I don't put much weight on lineage so that's mostly a null point for me.

This weekend I am going to discuss the process of initiation in to the Thuban Temple that is near me. I've gotten to know a couple of the adepts and I trust them and see them as friends and I enjoy the company of the other magicians I have met, so I am looking forward to it.
