My Stained Glass Art Work - Sorrun - 05-09-2010

I wanted to share with the group some Stained Glass Art Work I have done. The pictures really do not do a justice as in person they are much more vivid, but thought you may enjoy them nonetheless.

This first one symbolizes the story of Tai Chi. The pic quality it not that good as you cannot see and appreciate the different pieces of glass for the snake and the glass type/color/texture. The background glass was cut in pieces from one piece of glass, (notice the flow in the glass patterns). This was nerve-racking for me as if I made an error with one of the cut's, I would have to start all over again to attain the "one piece in multiple pieces" swirls.
Here is how the story of Tai Chi goes;
"A snake and a crane were in combat with each other. Chang San-feng watched as the crane swooped down from a tree with its wings fully spread, the snake hissed a challenge which the crane took up by using its sharp pointed beak to initiate an attack. The snake used its deceptive coiling movements to evade the danger and responded by lashing at the crane with its tail. The crane lifted its leg to avoid the strike and then used its claws to attack. Again the snake evaded this by twisting and turning, whilst instinctively countering with its mouth. The crane curled its neck to escape the venom and beat its huge wings to force the snake away. Eventually, after tiring themselves out, the two combatants called a draw, the snake slithered away and the crane returned to its tree perch. Mesmerized and exhilarated by this contest – Chang realized that he had been witnessing a perfect exhibition of the I Ching principles of adapting to change and the ability to blend soft and hard, strength and yielding. The continuity and flow of the circular movements seemed in accord with his Taoist observations of nature."

This was the 1st one I did. It has a box with florescent lights inside which make the glass glow with radiance.

This is a picture frame I created. The picture its self was simply cut out from a magazine - I only created the frame.

This one is Krishna teaching Arjuna. It has a real peacock feather and jewelry soldered and hanging on the piece. It won 1st place in a stained glass competition in the Miami Florida County Fair.

This one is someone,(i'd love to say its a self portrait, lol), doing a mediation with their chakras fully open. This is my favorite. It came in 3rd place in the stained glass competition in the Miami Florida County Fair.

Here is a pic of the 3 foot X 3 foot pattern I created after modifying things and making it "stained glass'able"...

It should take a 2+ years to do.
It's SUCH a long, tedious, but satisfying and loving process.
I'll post the completed version when it's completed.

That's such a complex picture. It'll look wonderful once the light hits it. Just make sure you get it finished before 2012! hahaha BigSmile
