Terence McKenna's last interview - Novelty Theory ....His theories conflict with the LOO, but they do have value and he is always interesting to listen to as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video, Icaro. Thank you very much. Worth every minute of the hour that the video is.

Fire in the madhouse, indeed! I like where it ended, in terms of galaxy as a being of compulsive novelty, stamping out every other force within that distorts it. Are we doing that here at b4th? Wink

RE: The mysterious nature of time - native - 08-12-2011

Hehe..yes, definitely a fire in the madhouse! We do seem to try and achieve a certain kind of order here.

For audio lectures by McKenna, go to Matrix Masters. On the right-hand side all the podcasts are broken down into topics, so scroll down to Terence McKenna. You can also click the 'Psychedelic Salon Podcasts (Click for full listing)' link, and every podcast is listed with a brief description. McKenna's ability to eloquently discuss complex topics is rewarding..I've grown a lot over the years listening to him.

But why did you say that his theories conflict with the LOO? I did not find any thing of that note in the video. Any observations on that?

It was in reference to his explanation of time and why/how we'll move into the next density. His idea being that our 'complexification' will become so great, that time will move so fast so as to trigger some kind of cosmic event that will take us into our next evolutionary stage. Novelty theory is interesting, but I don't see it being linked to time. He tries to connect time, consciousness, and the novelty on the planet as an indication of where we are in our evolution. There is truth to what he says in that movement and growth, the upward spiralling of light, is responsible for awareness evolving, but it seems that our next stage of awareness will come no matter the level of novelty. Our civilizations of the past and other 3D civilizations were much more advanced than we are now, so novelty theory is kind of moot.

A favorite quote from him "We are on the brink of making the quantum leap to the conquest of another dimension by obliterating our fixity in time. And then we will migrate into the future. Each into our own future. And then human history is looked back on as a nightmare awakened from, a brutal but necessary interval to being happily kissed goodbye."

RE: The mysterious nature of time - Confused - 08-13-2011

Thanks for the explanation, Icaro. I can see it more clearly now.

Ideas spread, offer new opportunity, and change culture - expand what we know is possible and possibly at the same time hide other ways of being - for better or worse. Some types of cultural standards seem to be able to support spiritual evolution better than others (i.e. those that promote balance and harmony).

If we honor our built-in guidance towards balance then society would be better off, regardless of novelty. I think there is a dynamic at work in that when we ignore this inner-spoken balance, we must compensate some how in an unconscious manner. One result is the creation of new ideas to provide more catalyst - hence the novelty.

In response to this, I wish to offer this:

There is much in it for the earnest seeker of the LOO, and a lot of subtle information on the nature of space/time and time/space.

Unfortunately many of these ideas aren't utilized for maximum benefit. At this stage everything is in place for polarization on a mass-scale. There is plenty of opportunity waiting to be addressed..inequality, over-population, food production to meet those needs, degradation of the earth, poor health etc.

If we could only somehow see what is in our best interest on a shared level, without compromising our free will, as so many are demanding by wanting to be 'saved' by external forces.

Not entirely related to the topic of this thread, but I came across this and it hosts some of the very mental conundrums that I struggle with myself. It is ultimately about free will and choice --

This provides for an in-depth study of the psychological archetypes that motivates each and every one of us, in my opinion.

If this were apparent, or provable, then we could begin to honor it. The stupid conundrum is that the Mind we have must find it for itself for it to be acknowledged. Circle. Circle. Circle. Spiraling into a sea of poo.

(Look at me. Is anyone reading my words lately and thinking that it would ever be possible for me to be balanced? Ha, I don't think so.)

I think you are quite balanced, 3. For someone to see the genius in everyone, means that that person is close to attaining complete balance in him or her self.

I liked the Alan Watts videos. For some reason he reminded me of Jeff Bridges.

Yeah, Alan Watts is such an original. He distills amazing observations from simple every day events. A great calm does descend upon the mind while listening to his words.

Thanks. Perhaps with any balanced scale there is the potential for one side to slip off and cause the other side to come crashing down. Hehehe.

You are an intelligent man, Sir. I see a viable individuality in every person. I suppose I support the cause that this individuality should be consistently recognized. This is my idea of harmony. Ideal, rather. It's impossible.
A reservation of the morning: when my time comes and I enter time/space, I am going on a rampage. They better look out Wink

Especially in space/time, since the body plays such a limiting factor. Why else would most people we know as evil in history always insisted on torture?!

We need to correct this in time/space.

Alan Watts - The One as Many 2/5

RE: The mysterious nature of time - Meerie - 08-20-2011

Wow, I had never heard of this Alan Watts, but it is great listening to him! the way he underlines his explanations with examples, plus his great sense of humour and catching laughter! Smile
Kiko, if you read this, in part 2 he talks about order and randomness. Might interest you.
Thanks for sharing, C!

Hello, Meerie. Good to have your participation on this thread. I am quickly turning into a fan of Alan Watts as well. I came across his lectures on a very random basis. I did not even know someone like that existed. His works are quite old though. I guess from the 60s and 70s. One of the early pioneers who delved into Eastern philosophies on behalf of a Western audience. However, the interesting thing was I was at a stage wherein I could understand his profound statements. He is a beautiful conversationalist, for sure.

Apart from the personality, what underlies his observations are great universal truths. That is why they appeal. If it is just personality level, the appeal would not cross ages. The truth is what attracts people. The personality serves as an instrument. I am going to upload more from the same series, once I have personally watched them. Watch out for more. Ah! you could be watching more yourself as well, since you are empowered now with a new Lenovo Tongue

Basically the point he spoke about. The point where it is all allegory. I'm just starting to realize HOW the allegory is applicable. It was easy to say 'that's just a myth', but now I understand more about how all the myths are relative to each other and to our daily life. I supposed I had a propensity to wrap myself up in any one of the myths being literal at any one time in my life. I have officially grown out of this propensity. I have just been birthed into a new understanding. (Reborn! hahahaha, a joke).

The cool thing is how I've never heard this guy before, and this video is retrospectively supporting my new found understanding.
