There is also the program that seems to override free will or the mush brain. A blockage is karma. So applying the "mind over matter" in a sense does not overcome soul program. That's if we call mind the thinking process.
Free will is an odd thing to me.
I would say conscious awareness of his issue would have allowed direct intervention. I think he functioned on belief though.

Steve Jobs died, because he believed his time was limited. Therefore, imo, the Universe has realized his belief. You know, the Universe does always realize what we believe in strongly.
